If you're new to my blog welcome! If you have not done so already, check out my previous blog posts on my journey to opening at Etsy Shop. Taking Risks Is Part of the JourneySuccess does not come without taking risks. Opening an Etsy shop has been all about taking risks. I never thought my minimal design work would or could ever become anything. However, as I continue to venture through this journey with Etsy I am continuously blessed with opportunities that keep me going. (I've wanted to give up so many times - but I can't stop now). The last time I sat behind a table and sold something was in middle school at the Christmas fair. I sold my personal collection of Pokemon cards. Actually,I’ve always been really good at selling things. I was the top seller in my class for selling World’s Finest Chocolates year by year in middle school. Tomorrow, Dumplings and Us will be LIVE and IN PERSON! It is REALITY that I am actually selling my designs (and my sister’s designs) in person. I am nervous, excited, scared, and have so many emotions going through my mind right now - that it is SO HARD to contain. This week I’ve been staying up later than normal packing cards and making sketchbooks. One by one I cut, folded, and packaged each one with so much pride. I can’t believe I made what I made. Both grandparents are out of commission tomorrow as well. I am so grateful for my neighbor who will be taking my older son, my husband who will be taking at least two kids (i’ll baby carry one), and of course my co-lead (dearsaladdays) for being at the table with me. I would not be able to do this without any of these people. Blessings Are a Gift from GodWhen I was thinking about which cards and sketchbook designs to print I stumbled upon a Mom and Pop printing company down the street from my house. They mostly support businesses, but I took a chance and called them to ask if they would help me print my designs (because the FedEx near my house has terrible customer service- and that was my only option for on-demand printing). I found L&D Printing. They not only supported me in printing my cards and sketchbook covers on demand, the mom of the shop HAS TWINS - and her twins run the shop with her. This is NOT a coincidence, this is no doubt a blessing from God. They took so much care of me this week, I cannot express how grateful I am for them. I will be printing with them FOREVER!
Not only did I find this blessing of a printing company - I also picked up 2-3 additional custom orders for party decor to fulfill within the next month (oh boy here we go :)!). I reached my first $100 in revenue on Etsy (since opening February 27th) and delivered two custom orders. I also found an opportunity for my business to get featured in an article hosted by (https://www.ayiconnection.com). They are releasing the newsletter in May to feature “Mombosses.” There’s a lot of opportunities to promote small businesses popping up, they're just a little hard to find unless you’re intentionally looking. Keep promoting yourself in person to people you know or just anywhere. I’ve been trying to “spring clean” and I’ve been giving stuff away, and when I do I attach my business card to my Etsy shop. Keep advertising your business (not just online) but in person too and to everyone you come across. So to those of you who are just getting started with Etsy, and although the orders are slow, my advice is to not give up. Keep going and keep creating new products. It will eventually pay off!
