Hi, New Here? Welcome! If you're new to my blog welcome! If you have not done so already, check out my previous blog posts on my journey to opening at Etsy Shop. The Reality of EtsyThere's a lot of content out there on social media that try to convince you that selling on Etsy is a multi-million dollar business. Well, I'm here to tell you that the reality of selling on Etsy is NOT a multi-million dollar business, and it is NOT a fast selling platform. I've been open on Etsy for two months now. I have about 55 listings and have made about $130 in profit. Now I am NOT by all means upset at these numbers, if anything I am extremely grateful, but I do believe the reality of selling on Etsy is slow and it takes time. I sell a variety of paper products, such as party decor, greeting cards, and notebooks. Each of my items are unique in their own way, and that is what I believe makes my products sell. As a consumer, if you are looking for something specific I believe you will find it. It may be on Etsy or may not be, but I do believe if you are selling truly unique items, it will be found and eventually sell. I also do believe that having diversity in the products allows me to get more exposure across different audiences. My Version of MarketingI have about 55 listings and $130 in profit. This all comes with $0 of paid advertisements and ONLY selling on one e-commerce platform (Etsy). I do not have any reason to expand beyond Etsy at this time. I'm still in "experimental" and "risks" phase where I'm testing out a ton of different products and designs and seeing what sells. Although the sales are slow, they do come, and it slowly gives me a good idea of what designs are a "keeper" and what are not. I am however spreading news about my business in a variety of different ways. I'm giving out a few free cards to random people here and there. When I visit a small business I tell them about my small business. I've been "spring cleaning" and giving a ton of things away for free - while attaching my business card to the products. I also have been posting almost daily on Instagram and Facebook with posts, stories, and reels. What is very interesting is that my view count for my reels is a lot higher on Facebook than it is on Instagram. (Not sure why) since Facebook is my secondary posts that originate from my Instagram - but I am not complaining! I also try to keep up with writing a blog that allow my products to be more identifiable across the search engine world. I also have been blessed with opportunities to sell in person at craft fairs (ones with low vendor fees) and I will also be able to get featured in a news article soon. My NicheOne really beneficial thing about Etsy is that it allows me to experiment. I must say that I'm still trying to figure out what my "niche" is. I love creating so many different things and I love designing, but I have not yet narrowed down a single topic. However, I think that is OK. Etsy is a great place to allow me to try out my designs in different formats to see what works and what doesn't. The statistics from the "view" counts help me see trends. One of my favorite things to do is to host people and plan parties. I think further down the line my Etsy shop will transform into more party related decor (because there is always a reason to party) :) - but for now it's going to continue to be a mix of different things. I only want to create party products if I'm actually doing it for my kids or my friends, but making party related things without a reason or event where I"m personally tied to it is too difficult for my brain :). What's Next?I recently just launched a new product - flat note cards. I always loved the idea of writing a quick note (like a post-card type note) with a super cute and trendy design. A one sided note card, where there is a design on one side and a personalized note on the other side. Perfect for gifts, friends, family, or really any and all occasions. I can see myself using these note cards at work (when I go back to work) - encouraging my team members in a variety of different ways with a personal note. I can also use these note cards as a hand-written "thank you" note to add to my sold products.
These note cards are SO versatile, that I believe with a trendy design and a personalized note - this can be SO functional!
